Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium grant was introduced in April 2011 and is an additional payment, paid to school, for pupils who fall into the following categories:

  • Pupils who are eligible for means-tested free school meals or who have been eligible for free school meals in the last six years.
  • Pupils who are currently looked after by a Local Authority or have been in the last six years.
  • Pupils whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

How is the Pupil Premium grant used?

At Tugby the pupil premium grant is used to improve progress and raise standards of achievement for pupils. The funding is used to diminish the difference between the achievement of pupils who are socially disadvantaged and their peers.  We aim to ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.

In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.  Pupil Premium funding is allocated following a needs analysis which identifies priority classes, groups and individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of Pupil Premium interventions at any one time.  For a full breakdown of how we are currently using this funding, please see the statement below.  This statement also outlines plans for the spending of the recovery premium, to tackle disadvantage caused by the pandemic.

Current financial support available for pupil premium pupils at Tugby:

- Fully funded breakfast club

- Fully funded day trips, visitors and swimming lessons

- Fully funded after-school clubs, including a range of sporting and non-sporting opportunities

- Half-priced residentials

- One free school jumper/cardigan per academic year
